The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that four Minor League players have been suspended following their violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Tampa Bay Rays Minor League catcher Nicholas Ciuffo, who is currently on the roster of Triple-A Durham of the International League, has received a 50-game suspension without pay following a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
San Diego Padres Minor League pitcher Alex Cunningham, who is currently on the roster of Single-A Tri-City of the Northwest League, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Philadelphia Phillies Minor League pitcher Steven Geltz, who is currently on the roster of Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the International League, has received a 100-game suspension without pay following a third positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League second baseman Mitchell Tolman, who is currently on the roster of Double-A Altoona of the Eastern League, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspensions of all four players will be effective at the beginning of their respective 2018 seasons.
