Scottsdale, Ariz. - The San Francisco Giants announced today that they have agreed to terms with free agent left-handed pitcher Tony Watson on a two-year deal with a player option for 2020. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
Watson, who spent seven seasons with the Pirates from 2011-17, went 5-3 with a 3.66 ERA (19er, 46.2ip) in 47 games with Pittsburgh last season before being traded to the Dodgers on July 31. The 32-year-old finished the season with Los Angeles-NL posting a 2-1 record with a 2.70 ERA (6er, 20.0ip) in 24 regular season games before going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA (2er, 7.0ip) over 11 postseason contests.
Mainly used by the Pirates as a setup man over his seven-year career, the 2014 All-Star has appeared in 474 career Major League games, going 33-17 with a 2.68 ERA (135er, 453.0ip). He's held left-handed hitters to a .216 (124-for-573) average against and eight home runs over his career, and has also held the opposition to a .187 (82-for-438) clip with runners in scoring position. Watson has appeared in at least 70 games in each of the last four seasons and has thrown at least 65.0 innings in five-straight campaigns.
The Iowa native has appeared in 16 career postseason games, posting a 2.25 ERA (3er, 12.0ip) and has held opponents to a .205 average against.
