Yankees acquire RHP Gil from Twins

The New York Yankees on Friday announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Luis Gil from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Jake Cave.

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Luis Gil from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Jake Cave.
Gil, 19, made 14 starts with the DSL Twins in 2017, going 0-2 with a 2.59 ERA (41.2IP, 12ER) and 49K.
A native of Azua, D.R., he was originally signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on February 13, 2015. In two professional seasons - both with the DSL Twins - Gil is 1-4 with two saves, a 3.32 ERA (65.0IP, 24ER) and 73K in 30 games (14 starts). He has held opponents to a .200 BA (46-for-230) in his career.
Cave, 25, hit .285 (681-for-2,387) with 340R, 142 doubles, 39HR and 223RBI in 599 games over six minor league seasons with the Yankees. He split the 2017 season between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting a combined .305 (124-for-406) with 66R, 26 doubles, 5 triples, 20HR and 56RBI in 103 games.
The Hampton, Va., native was originally chosen by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He was selected by Cincinnati in the first round of the Major League phase of the 2015 Rule 5 Draft on December 10, 2015 and re-acquired from the Reds as a Rule 5 draft return on April 5, 2016.
Cave had been designated for assignment by the Yankees on March 12, 2018.
