Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus underwent additional x-rays and a CT scan on his right elbow on Thursday. The tests confirmed an olecranon fracture in his right elbow. Rangers Team Physician Keith Meister indicated that the fracture is stable and will not require surgery. Dr. Meister estimated that Andrus will be sidelined for approximately six to eight weeks. Andrus' elbow will remain in a splint.
Andrus left Wednesday's game versus the Los Angeles Angels after being hit on the right elbow by a Keynan Middleton pitch in the ninth inning. Since making his Major League debut for the Rangers on opening day in 2009, Andrus has been inactive for just three of the Rangers' 1515 regular season and post-season games, May 17, 2016 on the MLB suspended list and July 5 & 7, 2017 on the MLB paternity list.
Andrus batting .327 with two home runs and five RBI in 14 games in 2018. Texas will make a roster move prior to Friday's game to replace Andrus on the active roster.
BLACKBURN UNDERGOES SURGERY: Rangers RHP Clayton Blackburn underwent ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday. The surgery was performed in Arlington by Dr. Meister, who indicated the procedure went as expected. Blackburn, who sustained the injury during spring training in early March, is on the 60-day disabled list, and will miss the rest of the 2018 season.
