Following a weeklong road trip, the New York Yankees will return home to Yankee Stadium on Friday for a nine-game homestand. The Yankees will begin the stretch with three games from Fri., May 4-Sun., May 6 vs. the Cleveland Indians, marking a rematch of 2017 AL Division Series opponents. Following a team off day on Mon., May 7, the Yankees will then play three games from Tues., May 8-Thurs., May 10 vs. the Boston Red Sox, who are making their first trip to the Stadium this season. The homestand will conclude with a three-game series from Fri., May 11-Sun., May 13 vs. the Oakland Athletics.
During the homestand opener on Fri., May 4, the Yankees will host their third-annual Star Wars Night, with the first 40,000 guests in attendance receiving an Aaron Judge Jedi Bobblehead (pictured at left and attached). As part of the festivities, approximately 80 Star Wars characters will greet fans and be available for photos throughout the Stadium after all Stadium gates open at 4:00 p.m. At approximately 6:40 p.m., the characters will parade on the warning track from centerfield to home plate. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard -- who directed Solo: A Star Wars Story -- will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Didi Gregorius Bat Day will take place on Sat., May 12, with the first 10,000 guests ages 14-and-younger receiving a Didi Gregorius replica-autographed bat, courtesy of Bank of America.
Rounding out the homestand, the Yankees will celebrate Mother's Day on Sun., May 13, by wearing pink-themed uniforms. Since 2006, Major League players have swung pink bats, worn pink ribbon decals and sported pink wristbands on Mother's Day to raise awareness and funds (through charity auctions) to fight breast cancer.
In an effort to provide fans with increased opportunities to watch the Yankees take batting practice, all Stadium gates will open at 4:00 p.m. on Star Wars Night, Fri., May 4. Additionally, on Fri., May 11, Gates 6 and 8 will open at 4:00 p.m., and guests entering the park at that time will be able to view batting practice from the Bleachers and 100 Level outfield sections of the Stadium.
