The New York Mets today announced that the club has acquired catcher Devin Mesoraco from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for RHP Matt Harvey. In addition, the Mets placed third baseman Todd Frazier on the 10-Day Disabled List, with a left hamstring strain. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred RHP Anthony Swarzak to the 60-Day Disabled List.
Mesoraco, 29, was named to the 2014 All-Star team and became the second catcher in Reds history (also Johnny Bench) to hit 25 home runs in a season and drive in 80 runs.
The 6-1, 229-pounder has hit two doubles, one home run and has three RBI while hitting .220 (9-41) in 18 games for the Reds this year. Mesoraco had six homers and 14 RBI in 56 games, 39 starts, last year with the Reds.
He has been limited to 113 games since the start of 2015 due to injuries. In his All-Star campaign in 2014, he batted .273 (105-384) with 25 doubles and 54 runs scored in addition to his 25 homers and 80 RBI.
Harvey, 29, was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA (21 earned runs/27.0 innings) in eight games, four starts for the Mets this year. Harvey went 34-37 with a 3.66 ERA (260 earned runs/639.1 innings) during his Mets career (2012-2018).
Frazier, 32, is hitting .237 (27-114) with five home runs and 21 RBI in 32 games for the Mets this season.
