RED ALERT: D-backs to host scavenger hunt during week leading up to Opening Day

Regular season kickoff event to be held on Monday morning at City Hall with Mayor Stanton

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today a weeklong kickoff to the start of the regular season, including the #RedAlert Scavenger Hunt throughout downtown Phoenix and downtown Tempe beginning tomorrow and a kickoff event at City Hall on Monday morning at 9 a.m. The team has also partnered with CityScape and the Downtown Phoenix Partnership on several events next week as the team hosts two exhibition games against the Milwaukee Brewers at Chase Field on Tuesday, April 3 (6:40 p.m.) and Wednesday, April 4 (12:40 p.m.).

“There’s an excitement about the D-backs throughout the Valley right now that seems to have picked up right where we left off in the Postseason,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. “The events of this weekend and next week will continue to feed the frenzy as we head towards Opening Weekend.”

The #RedAlert Scavenger Hunt kicks off tomorrow, when daily clues will be revealed via facebook.com/Dbacks, Twitter (@Dbacks), email and text messages (fans can sign-up to receive these at dbacks.com/connect). Each clue will lead fans to a life-sized cutout of 2011 Manager of the Year Kirk Gibson in downtown Phoenix or Tempe. The first 23 fans each day that find the cutout and mention “Gibby Is Watching” to one of the on-site D-backs representatives will receive one of several prizes, including tickets, t-shirts, hats and autographed memorabilia. For complete information, visit dbacks.com/redalert.

This Monday, April 2, at 9 a.m., Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and city officials will join Hall and other D-backs executives at an Opening Week kickoff event at City Hall. A 40-foot by 20-foot D-backs banner will be unveiled from Mayor Stanton’s balcony on the East Side of City Hall while Opening Day, April 6 will be proclaimed “Arizona Diamondbacks Day” in the City of Phoenix. City Hall is located at 200 W. Washington St. in Phoenix.

"The D-Backs brought great enthusiasm to our city during last season’s NL West pennant chase and the playoffs," said Stanton.  "As the D-Backs launch the 2012 season, let’s get behind this team early and often.  They have what it takes to repeat as division champs and make a deep playoff run - hopefully all the way to the World Series!"

The City of Phoenix will not be the only ones decked out in D-backs gear that day, as the club will host a contest to determine which office has the best D-backs fans in the Valley. Businesses are encouraged to paint their storefront windows Sedona Red and show their D-backs pride, with the winning offices receiving a suite to a 2012 home game at Chase Field. The contest, which starts this Sunday, April 1 and runs through April 8, encourages fans to take a photo of themselves, their co-workers, their office or their business decked out in D-backs gear and submit it for a chance to win. The winners will be selected based on D-backs spirit, baseball enthusiasm and originality, with complete details and an entry form available at dbacks.com/redalert beginning April 1.

On Tuesday, April 3 and Wednesday April 4, the D-backs will team up with the Downtown Phoenix Partnership and CityScape to celebrate the exhibition games held on those dates at Chase Field.

All day Friday, CityScape is offering food, drinks, games and music in Patriots Square. There will be activities for baseball fans of all ages including D-backs inflatables for kids, a batting cage and fast pitch contests.

Before the game, fans can show their D-backs ticket on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to receive complimentary underground parking at Cityscape while stalls last. Parking entrances are on Washington Street between 1st Street and Central Avenue, Jefferson Street between 1st Avenue and 1st Street, and 1st Avenue between Washington Street and Jefferson Street.

Throughout the weekend, CityScape tenants are offering fans specials and discounts.

D-backs corporate partner Chase has purchased red gels again to make Chase Tower and some of the trees within the property glow on Opening Day until 11 p.m. In addition, the tunnel that connects to the inside of Chase Tower will glow red throughout Opening Weekend.
