ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves announced today that Tennessee high school catcher Luke Terry will announce Atlanta's first selection in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft. The first day of the Draft will be held on Monday, June 4, and will begin on MLB Network at 7 p.m. (ET). The Braves hold the eighth pick in the first round and the sixth pick in the second round (No. 49 overall).
A 16-year-old from Cornersville, Tenn., Luke had his right arm amputated when he was just 19 months old. He recently completed his freshman year at Cornersville High School, where he helped the Bulldogs to a 17-12 record this past season.
A lifelong Braves fan, Luke threw out a ceremonial first pitch at a Braves home game in June 2017. His favorite player is Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson.
Monday's portion of the Draft will run through the second round. The three-day event will continue Tuesday with rounds 3-10, while rounds 11-40 will be held on Wednesday. Beginning in the fourth round, Atlanta will hold the eighth pick in each round.
The Braves begin a six-game road trip on Monday at San Diego, with first pitch slated for 10:10 p.m. (ET) on Fox Sports Southeast and the Braves Radio Network.
