Seattle Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced today that the club has signed its top selection, right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert, from the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The Mariners have also signed 9th round pick Keegan McGovern (of) and 24th round pick Benjamin Onyshko (lhp). In all, 32 of the Mariners 40 draft picks have signed contracts. The 32 signings include 9 of the top 10 selections and 28 of the top 30.

All Major League teams have until July 6, 2018 (2:00 p.m. PT) to sign drafted players with remaining college eligibility.

Gilbert, 21, was named ASUN (Atlantic Sun Conference) Pitcher of the Year and received ASUN 1st-Team All-Conference honors in 2017. He received All-America honors from both Perfect Game (3rd-Team) and Collegiate Baseball (2nd-Team), and was selected preseason All-America by Collegiate Baseball (2nd-Team) and Perfect Game (1st-Team) prior to his junior year in 2018.

As a junior in 2018, Gilbert has posted a 2.72 ERA (34 ER, 112.1 IP) while going 11-2 with 163 strikeouts and 25 walks in 16 starts. His 163 strikeouts lead NCAA Division-I baseball this season, while his 0.85 WHIP is 7th-best.

Over the course of three seasons with Stetson University, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-hander posted a 23-3 record with a 2.48 ERA (69 ER, 250.2 IP) with 313 strikeouts and 77 walks in 52 games (33 starts) while allowing only 11 home runs. He was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week twice in 2017, and was recognized by Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and College Sports Madness as National Pitcher of the Week after falling 3 outs short of a no-hitter in a complete-game shutout vs. Florida Golf Coast on April 9, 2017. He tallied 18 strikeouts in the shutout, the 3rd-most strikeouts in a game by any Division-I pitcher in 2017.

In the summer of 2017, he played as a member of the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Collegiate League where he earned the Thomas Yankus Pitching Award and was named to the All-League team. He went 2-2 with a 1.93 ERA over 37.1 innings in 9 games (8 starts) with 39 strikeouts and 6 walks with the Firebirds.

Prior to his time at Stetson, Gilbert was ranked among the top 75 prospects in the state of Florida and the top 500 prospects in the nation by Perfect Game. He received honorable mention All-America and All-Florida from Rawlings-Perfect Game.

The Mariners selected 21 pitchers, 3 catchers, 11 infielders (6 2B, 4 SS, 1 3B) and 5 outfielders. Seattle selected 33 college players and 7 high school players.
