Mets And PIX11 To Celebrate Mets 50th Birthday This Wednesday, April 11 By Rolling Back Tickets To 1962 Of $2.50

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 8, 2012 – The New York Mets and PIX11 today announced in celebration of the Mets 50^th birthday on Wednesday, April 11 the franchise is rolling back prices on a limited number of tickets for that game to the 1962 reserved seat price of $2.50. 

Fans can purchase tickets for the 1:10 p.m. game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field online at Mets.com/MetsBirthday or at the Citi Field Ticket Windows adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda.  Seats are located in non-Season Ticket Holder areas in the Promenade Outfield and Left Field Landing.  Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available on the day of the game.  Tickets fees apply to online orders.  Tickets purchased at Citi Field carry no fees and will be limited to four per customer.

Wednesday’s expected pitching match-up will be Johan Santana against Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals. 

The Mets played their inaugural game on April 11, 1962 against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.  Reserved tickets for the Mets first season at its home ballpark, the Polo Grounds, cost $2.50.

Roger Craig, an Original Met who was the starting pitcher in the Mets first game, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Today’s announcement is the latest in a series of commemorative events tied to the season-long celebration of the Mets 50^th Anniversary including the unveiling of a commemorative logo and redesigned uniforms, the return of Banner Day, the launch of the Mets50.com web site focusing on Mets fans and their memories, the 50^th Anniversary Alumni Bobblehead Series and the “50 Days to 50” Twitter promotion.
