Nationals recall Jefry Rodriguez

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Jefry Rodriguez from Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday and placed infielder Matt Adams on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to June 16) with a fractured left index finger.

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Jefry Rodriguez from Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday and placed infielder Matt Adams on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to June 16) with a fractured left index finger. Additionally, the Nationals optioned right-handed pitcher Wander Suero to Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Rodriguez, 24, joins the Nationals for his second Major League assignment of the season. He joins the Nationals after going 5-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts for Double-A Harrisburg. He has recorded 72 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .222 batting average. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three Double-A starts, surrendering just four hits and striking out 21 batters over this span.
Rodriguez made his Major League debut on June 3 at Atlanta. He was called upon in the bottom of the first inning after Jeremy Hellickson left the game due to injury. Rodriguez impressed with 4.2 innings of four-hit, shutout ball. He struck out three batters while issuing just two walks.
Adams, 29, hit .275 (42-for-153) with seven doubles, 13 home runs, 36 RBI, 16 walks and 24 runs scored in 57 games so far in 2018.<p.>Suero, 26, went 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA (7 ER/17.1 IP) and 17 strikeouts in 15 games out of Washington's bullpen.</p.>
