Astros sign RHP Jayson Schroeder and OF Alex McKenna

The Houston Astros have signed second-round pick RHP Jayson Schroeder and fourth-round pick OF Alex McKenna. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The official announcement was made by Astros Assistant General Manager of Player Acquisition Mike Elias.

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have signed second-round pick RHP Jayson Schroeder and fourth-round pick OF Alex McKenna. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The official announcement was made by Astros Assistant General Manager of Player Acquisition Mike Elias.
Schroeder will be available to the media in the Astros dugout today at approximately 4:15 p.m. CT.
Schroeder, 18, was the Seattle Times 2018 Baseball Player of the Year after a dominant senior season at Juanita High School in Kirkland, Wash. In 11 starts, the right-handed pitcher went 6-4 with a 1.51 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched. On April 13, he recorded a 17-strikeout perfect game. Tabbed by Baseball America as the top high school prospect out of the Northwest region, Schroeder was a Rawlings-Perfect Game Second Team All-American this year.
McKenna, 21, was the 2018 Big West Conference Player of the Year and a Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American after batting .339 (81x239) with 15 doubles, five triples, five homers, 31 RBI and a .930 OPS at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Selected by the Astros with the 132nd overall pick in the draft, the center fielder was rated by ESPN.com as the No. 77 overall prospect in the 2018 draft class. In addition to his strong track record at Cal Poly (.402 career on-base percentage), McKenna was one of the top players in the prestigious Cape Cod League last summer, batting .298 with 15 stolen bases for Yarmouth-Dennis.
Following today's signings, the Astros have signed each of their top 10 selections from the 2018 MLB Draft. Of their 40 overall picks in the draft, the Astros have signed 26.
