A's Reinstate Barton from the Disabled List; Designate Allen For Assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated first baseman Daric Barton from the disabled list and designated first baseman Brandon Allen for assignment, the club announced today.

Barton was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Tuesday retroactive to March 24 with a strained right shoulder.  He was limited to just seven games this spring, batting .176 with a double and no RBI.  Barton began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento Thursday and went 7 for 19 (.368) with a home run and five RBI in four starts at first base in a four-game series at Las Vegas.  He batted .212 with no home runs and 21 RBI in 67 games with the A’s last year.

Allen was the A’s Opening Day starter at first base but went 0 for 7 with five strikeouts in three games.  He hit .314 with 14 RBI in 14 spring training games.  Allen was acquired by the A’s from Arizona at the trading deadline last year and combined to hit .200 with six home runs and 18 RBI in 52 games with Oakland and the Diamondbacks.
