The Texas Rangers today announced that outfielder Austin Jackson has been designated for assignment.
Jackson was acquired with right-handed pitchers Jason Bahr and Cory Gearrin from the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later or cash considerations on July 8.
The 31-year-old Jackson batted .242 (36-149) with 13 RBI in 59 games for the Giants this season, making 35 starts in center field and one start in left field.
Texas has 10 days to trade, release, or outright Jackson to the minor leagues.
The Rangers' major league roster is now at 39 players.
