Prior to tonight's game against the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox recalled left-handed pitcher Robby Scott from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room on the 25-man roster, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks to Pawtucket. 
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Scott, 28, made his lone major league appearance of the season on June 19 at Minnesota, allowing two runs in 0.1 innings pitched. He has made 30 relief appearances for the PawSox this season, posting a 1.15 ERA (4 ER/31.1 IP) with 48 strikeouts, a 0.99 WHIP, and a .183 opponent batting average. He has held left-handed hitters to a .125 batting average (6-for-48) with only one extra-base hit (double) for Pawtucket in 2018, striking out 20 and walking only two. Twenty-six of his 30 appearances have been scoreless, including each of his last 11. Signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in 2011, Scott is 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA (17 ER/42.0 IP) in 65 career major league relief appearances (2016-18), having made his first career Opening Day roster with Boston in 2017.
Beeks, 25, made his second career major league appearance last night against the Rangers, allowing three earned runs over 2.1 relief innings. He suffered the loss in his big league debut on June 7 against the Detroit Tigers, surrendering six runs in 4.0 frames. Named a 2018 International League All-Star, the left-hander is 5-5 with a 3.05 ERA (28 ER/82.2 IP) in 15 starts for Pawtucket this season, ranking among International League leaders in strikeouts (2nd, 110), WHIP (2nd, 1.08), opponent batting average (4th, .214), and ERA (5th). Selected by Boston in the 12th round of the 2014 June Draft, Beeks was named 2017 Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year and entered the 2018 season ranked by Baseball America as the organization's No. 11 prospect.
