MILWAUKEE - WE DID IT! It's official, Jesús Aguilar is an All-Star! Thanks to the greatest fans in the game, Jesús Aguilar is the winner of the Camping World All-Star Final Vote. The Brewers faithful voted religiously as soon as the polls opened on Sunday. Thanks to your efforts, Jesús then climbed to an early lead in balloting and never looked back.
Aguilar drew 20.2 million votes en route to securing his first Midsummer Classic selection. His vote total marked the second-highest total ever in a Final Vote, behind only Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers (20.8 million in 2017).
"I want to give my sincerest thank you to every single fan that helped me become an All-Star," said Aguilar. "The support I received has been incredible. I feel like a winner, and I would not have been able to do it without my teammates, the front office and most importantly the fans. Thank you again."
The players and uniformed staff adopted the "We Believe in Jesús" tagline last month, and the organization carried it forward with the voting campaign.
Earlier today, the Brewers helped get out the vote with a "Sinful Breakfast" at Miller Park. Jesús himself treated fans to ice cream and two tickets to the July 24 game vs. the Nationals. The response was overwhelming and tickets ran out in less than an hour.
Yesterday, the Crew hosted a "Sweet Jesús" doughnut giveaway at Holey Moley Coffee + Doughnuts in the Mayfair Collection. The Crew also set up a polling station at Anodyne Coffee in Walker's Point on Monday.
This is the third time that the Brewers have won the Final Vote. In 2003 and 2008, Brewers fans "shocked the world" by electing Geoff Jenkins and Corey Hart to the Final Man spot, ahead of players from markets as large as New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
To help energize the regional market, the Brewers and Twins formed an alliance to co-promote Aguilar in the National League and the Twins Eddie Rosario (translation is "Rosary," by coincidence) in the American League for this year's Final Vote balloting. It was strong campaign, but unfortunately Rosario was not the winner.
Aguilar will join teammates Lorenzo Cain, Josh Hader and Christian Yelich, who were selected Sunday to participate in the Midsummer Classic. This marks the sixth time in team history that the Brewers have had four players represented at an All-Star Game, a franchise record (also, 1980, 1982, 1983, 2007 and 2014).
The 89th Major League All-Star Game presented by Mastercard will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
