Cubs activate lefthander Brian Duensing

The Chicago Cubs activated left-handed pitcher Brian Duensing off of the 10-day disabled list Friday. Right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell has been optioned to Triple-A.

The Chicago Cubs activated left-handed pitcher Brian Duensing off of the 10-day disabled list Friday. Right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell has been optioned to Triple-A.
Duensing will be available for the Cubs on Friday when they begin their three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
Duensing, 35, was placed on the disabled list on July 1 with left shoulder fatigue. He made one rehab appearance with Double-A Tennessee as part of his return, retiring all three batters faced on 11 pitches on Tuesday vs. Montgomery. With the Cubs this year, Duensing is 2-0 with one save and a 6.92 ERA (20 ER/26.0 IP) in 35 relief appearances. He owned a 0.54 ERA (1 ER/16.2 IP) in his first 23 outings through May 27 before allowing 19 earned runs in his next 9.1 innings covering 12 relief outings and being placed on the disabled list.
Farrell, 27, is 3-3 with a 3.86 ERA (12 ER/28.0 IP) in 19 appearances (one start) with the Cubs this season. He is 0-2 with a 4.94 ERA (13 ER/23.2 IP) in five starts with Iowa this year.
