White Sox place Kevan Smith on paternity list; recall Dustin Garneau

Prior to tonight's series opener at Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox placed catcher Kevan Smith on the Paternity List and recalled catcher Dustin Garneau from Class AAA Charlotte.

Prior to tonight's series opener at Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox placed catcher Kevan Smith on the Paternity List and recalled catcher Dustin Garneau from Class AAA Charlotte.
Garneau, 30, is hitting .206 (21-102) with five home runs and 19 RBI in 33 games with Charlotte after being claimed off waivers from Oakland on May 24. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Garneau has combined to throw out 33.9 percent (19-56) of attempted basestealers between Charlotte and Class AAA Nashville in the A's system.
Garneau, a native of San Pedro, Calif., is a career .192 (48-250) hitter with 17 doubles, five homers and 23 RBI in 87 career games over parts of three major-league seasons with Colorado (2015-17) and the Oakland (2017). He originally was selected by the Rockies in the 19th round of the 2009 draft out of Cal-State Fullerton.
Smith, 30, is hitting .307 (31-101) with no home runs and 10 RBI in 27 games with the White Sox this season after being recalled from Charlotte on June 5. He and his wife, Jessica, are expecting their first child.
