A’s Recall Tyson Ross and Neil Wagner from Triple-A Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitchers Tyson Ross and Neil Wagner from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today.  To clear spots on the roster, the A’s optioned right-handed pitcher Andrew Carignan and outfielder Collin Cowgill to Sacramento.

Ross was the A’s final cut of the spring as he was optioned to Sacramento April 4 after being one of the A’s three inactive players in Japan.  He went 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA in two starts with the River Cats and is scheduled to start tonight’s game in Anaheim.  Ross was 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA in five starts this spring.  The 24-year-old right-hander went 3-3 with a 2.75 ERA in nine games, six starts, with Oakland last year before going on the disabled list May 20 with a strained left oblique.  He made four rehab starts before he was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Sacramento July 25.  Ross was 3-2 with a 7.61 ERA in nine starts overall with the River Cats in 2011.

Wagner made three relief appearances with Sacramento and was 1-0 with a save and a 5.06 ERA.  He did not walk a batter in 5.1 innings and struck out eight.  Wagner allowed a .273 opponents batting average, including .125 (1 for 8) against left-handers and .357 (5 for 14) against right-handers.  The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 13.50 ERA in five appearances with the A’s this spring.  He made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and compiled a 7.20 ERA in six games in relief.

Carignan was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA in five relief appearances.  He issued five walks in 4.1 innings and allowed a .267 opponents batting average.  Cowgill was also on the A’s Opening Day roster, but appeared in just three games, going 0 for 4 with three walks.
