Oakland, Calif. -- KD, SAUCE, CHI, TOM ACE, OLY, CHAPPY, MANAEALATOR. It might not be what you're used to seeing on the back of an A's jersey, but those are just the beginning for Players' Weekend that is scheduled for Aug. 24-26 when the team plays in Minnesota.
Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced this afternoon the return of "Players' Weekend" which is a player-focused event that will include the players wearing colorful, non-traditional uniforms featuring alternate designed inspired by young league uniforms. Players will have the opportunity to have a nickname placed on the back of their jerseys made by Majestic Athletic, as well as to wear and use uniquely colored and designed spikes, batting gloves, wristbands, compression sleeves, catcher's masks, and bats.
Players will wear specially designed uniforms created for the three games with jerseys by Majestic, caps by New Era and socks from Stance. Uniform images for each of the teams can be found here: Players' Weekend Caps and Players' Weekend Jerseys.
Each player will have the opportunity to recognize someone who was instrumental in his personal development, or a baseball player who inspired him to achieve, on a jersey patch on his right sleeve. In addition, each player will have the option to wear a t-shirt highlighting a cause or charity of his choice during pregame workouts and postgame interviews.
