A's acquire RHP Fernando Rodney from Minnesota

The Oakland A's announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney from Minnesota in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Dakota Chalmers.

The Oakland A's announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney from Minnesota in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Dakota Chalmers.

Rodney, 41, is 3-2 with 25 saves and a 3.09 ERA (15 ER, 43.2 IP) with 50 strikeouts in 46 relief appearances for Minnesota this season. He has averaged over 10.00 strikeouts per 9.0 innings this season, and has averaged over 10.0 in five of the last six seasons (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018). His 325 career saves are 17th on MLB all-time saves list. Since May 1st is 22-for-25 in save opps with a 2.50 ERA (10 ER, 36.0 IP) and a .224 opponent average (30-for-134) in 37 games.

In 16 Major League seasons, he is 47-65 with 325 saves in 397 save opportunities with a 3.70 ERA (355 ER, 864.2 IP) with 874 strikeouts with Detroit (2002-03, 2005-09), Los Angeles-AL (2010-11), Tampa Bay (2012-13), Seattle (2014-15), Chicago-NL (2015), San Diego (2016), Miami (2016), Arizona (2017) and Minnesota (2018).

Chalmers, 21, was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 5.0 IP) in two games, including one start with Single-A Beloit this season. In four minor league seasons in the Oakland organization, he is 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA (55 ER, 121.1 IP) with 137 strikeouts in 38 games, including 30 starts. He was selected by Oakland in the 3rd round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of North Forsyth High School (Cumming, GA).
