The Phillies have acquired first baseman Justin Bour and cash considerations from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher McKenzie Mills.
The 30-year-old Bour batted .227 with 10 doubles, 19 home runs, 54 RBI, 69 walks and a .347 on-base percentage in 112 games for the Marlins this season. His 69 walks are seventh-most among National League players, and rank 10th in MLB. The left-handed hitting Bour is tied for the major league lead with three pinch-hit home runs, batting .500 in such situations.
A veteran of five major league seasons with Miami, Bour is a career .262 hitter with 83 home runs, 272 RBI and 197 walks in 478 games. Last season, the Washington, D.C. native set career highs in batting average (.289), home runs (25), RBI (83) and OPS (.902). He was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 25th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, and later selected by Miami in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft.
Mills, 22, was 2-5 with a 3.51 ERA (35 ER, 89.2 IP), 85 strikeouts and 33 walks in 20 games (16 starts) for single-A Clearwater. The southpaw was acquired by Philadelphia in the July 2017 trade that sent infielder/outfielder Howie Kendrick to the Washington Nationals. He was originally selected by Washington in the 18th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
To make room for Bour on the 40-man roster, right-hander Jake Thompson has been designated for assignment.
