Marlins acquire LHP McKenzie Mills from Philadelphia

In additional roster moves today, the Marlins selected the contract of OF Rafael Ortega from Triple-A New Orleans, placed RHP Kyle Barraclough on the 10-day disabled list with low back stiffness, and returned RHP Drew Rucinski from rehab and reinstated him from the 10-day disabled list. 
 
Mills, 22, is a native of Marietta, Georgia, and has spent the 2018 season with Single-A Advanced Clearwater in the Florida State League, going 2-5 with a 3.51 ERA (89.2 ip/35 er) in 20 appearances (16 starts). He has struck out 85 batters (8.9 per 9.0 innings). Since the FSL All-Star break, he has gone 2-3 and posted a 2.66 ERA (47.1/14) in eight starts.  
 
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound southpaw, who attended Sprayberry HS in Georgia, was an 18th round pick by the Washington Nationals in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He was a South Atlantic League All-Star in 2017 with Hagerstown in Washington's system, going 12-2 with a 3.01 ERA (104.2/35) and 118 strikeouts (10.1 per 9.0) in 18 starts. He was promoted to Potomac on July 27 after earning a win in eight of his last nine starts with the Suns, but was traded to Philadelphia the next day for Howie Kendrick. He finished his 2017 campaign with three starts for Clearwater. 
 
Mills has a career record of 19-20 with a 4.01 ERA (321.0/143) in 75 appearances (62 starts) in his fourplus professional seasons.
