Twins place Morrison on 10-day disabled list

The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have placed first baseman/designated hitter Logan Morrison on the 10-day disabled list with left hip impingement and will select the contract of right-handed pitcher Kohl Stewart from Triple-A Rochester.

Morrison, who was signed by the Twins to a one-year contract this past off-season, played in 95 games for the Twins, hitting .186 (59-for-318), with 15 home runs and 39 RBI. u5:p
To replace Morrison on the 25-man roster, the Twins will select the contract of right-handed pitcher Kohl Stewart from Rochester. Stewart, 23, appeared in 21 games (19 starts) between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Chattanooga this season, combining to go 3-7 with a 4.47 ERA (108.2 IP, 54 ER), 33 walks and 101 strikeouts. He had recently posted a 2.37 ERA (30.1 IP, 8 ER) with nine walks and 19 strikeouts in his last five starts for Rochester. u5:p
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander was drafted by the Twins fourth overall in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas. In six minor league seasons with the Twins, he has gone 31-34 with a 3.36 ERA (570.2 IP, 213 ER), 215 walks and 406 strikeouts in 111 games (106 starts).u5:p
Stewart is scheduled to make the start for the Twins tomorrow afternoon at Detroit and will wear uniform number 53.
