OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's Community Fund has announced a $100,000 endowment to the Peralta Colleges Foundation that will support scholarships for Peralta Community College District students.
The Oakland Athletics Scholars Program (OASP) will provide four scholarships annually for students enrolled in a variety of disciplines including Business; Digital Media & Communications; Information Technology; Hospitality/Retail; and Environment & Sustainability. Students receiving the scholarship will also be eligible to be considered for internships with the team.
"The Oakland A's financial commitment to the Peralta Colleges Foundation is another example of our positive impact in our community," said A's President Dave Kaval. "We are excited to support the Peralta Colleges Workforce Development programs for East Bay students."
"We are so excited for this partnership with the Oakland A's Community Fund," said Nikki Lasley, Interim Executive Director of the Peralta Colleges Foundation. "Current and future students will benefit tremendously from this generous gift, without which many would not be able to attend college at all."
The OASP scholarship application will be available in the fall and will be awarded in early 2019. Qualified students from all four Peralta Community Colleges - Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College and Merritt College - are eligible to apply.
