OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's will donate $20,000 to Carr Fire relief efforts, and Chevron has pledged to match the donation for a total of $40,000, the team announced today. The donations will go to CalFire, the Shasta Community Foundation, and the American Red Cross.
The fire that started on July 23 has ignited into the sixth-most destructive wildfire in state history, affecting nearly 134,000 acres in Shasta and Trinity Counties.
"When our community was hit by another devastating fire, we knew we had to act immediately," said Catherine Aker, A's vice president of Communications and Community. "We are proud to make an even greater impact thanks to Chevon and their generous support of an additional $20,000. Time and time again, Chevron has proven their dedication to our community."
"As an almost 140-year old California company, our roots run deep in this state and we are especially saddened to see the toll these fires are taking. We are grateful for the firefighters and first responders working to keep our neighbors safe and our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the fires," said Rhonda Morris, vice president of Human Resources at Chevron.
