The Minnesota Twins announced Sunday that they will recall left-handed pitcher Stephen Gonsalves from Triple-A Rochester and will start Monday's game against the White Sox.
Gonsalves, 24, pitched at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season, combining to go 12-3 with a 2.76 ERA (120.2 IP, 37 ER), 65 walks and 120 strikeouts. Gonsalves was selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California. He was named the third-best prospect in the Twins system by Baseball America and fifth-best by MLB.com entering the season.
To make room for Gonsalves on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey to Triple-A Rochester.
