White Sox acquire Bryan Connell and Johan Domínguez from Milwakuee

The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Bryan Connell and right-handed pitcher Johan Domínguez from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for left-hander Xavier Cedeño.

The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Bryan Connell and right-handed pitcher Johan Domínguez from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for left-hander Xavier Cedeño. To take Cedeño's place on the active roster, the White Sox purchased the contract of right-hander Ian Hamilton from Class AAA Charlotte, the No. 16 prospect in the organization according to MLB Pipeline.
 
Hamilton, 23, is 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA (10 ER/51.2 IP), 62 strikeouts and 22 saves in 43 relief appearances this season between Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte. The 6-foot, 190-pound Hamilton combined to limit opponents to a .204 (38-186) average, including a .198 (17-86) mark by lefties, and ranks 10th in the minor leagues in saves.
 
He began the season with Birmingham, going 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA (5 ER/25.1 IP), 34 strikeouts and 12 saves in 21 outings to earn a spot on the Southern League All-Star Team. He was promoted to Charlotte on June 21, where he went 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA (5 ER/26.1 IP), 28 strikeouts and 10 saves over 22 appearances.
 
Hamilton, a native of Dover, N.H., has gone 8-9 with a 2.54 ERA (44 ER/156.0 IP), 165 strikeouts, 37 saves in 109 relief appearances over three minor-league seasons after being selected by the White Sox in the 11th round of the 2016 draft out of Washington State. He is the Cougars' all-time leader with 28 saves.
 
Hamilton has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 63.
 
Connell, 19, is batting .239/.355/.432 (37-155) with seven doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBI and 30 runs scored in 48 combined games this season between the Dominican Summer League Brewers and Advanced Rookie Helena. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Connell began the season in the DSL, where he was named to the midseason All-Star Team, before being promoted to Helena on July 19.
 
Connell, a native of Panama City, Panama, has appeared in 158 minor-league games over parts of three minor-league seasons after signing with Milwaukee as an international free agent on July 2, 2015.
 
Domínguez, 22, has gone 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA (3 ER/33.0 IP), 36 strikeouts, .138 (15-109) opponents average and 0.85 WHIP in 23 combined relief appearances this season with the DSL Brewers, Arizona League Brewers and Helena. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Domínguez limited right-handers to a .122 (9-74) average between the three stops.
 
Domínguez, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is 9-6 with a 2.41 ERA (29 ER/108.1 IP), 116 strikeouts and a .174 (66-380) opponents average in 43 games (11 starts) over three minor-league seasons. He originally was signed by Milwaukee as an international free agent on January 18, 2016.
 
Cedeño, 32, is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA (8 ER/25.1 IP), 28 strikeouts, seven holds and one save in 33 appearances this season, his first with the White Sox after signing as a minor-league free agent on January 26.
