The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF Ildemaro Vargas (@ildemaro_tigre) from Triple-A Reno and RHP Matt Andriese (@MAndriese) from Single-A Advanced Visalia and placed RHP Zack Godley (@godleyzt) on the Paternity Leave List. The D-backs have 34 players on their active roster and the 40-man roster is at 40.
 
Vargas, 27, was named to the Pacific Coast League mid- and postseason All-Star Teams and had an Aces' record 35-game hitting streak from June 24-August 11, also the PCL's longest since 1989 and fifth longest all-time. He ranked among PCL leaders in hits (2nd, 167), triples (T-3rd, 10), total bases (4th, 239) and average (10th, .311).
 
In 124 games for the Aces, he hit .311 (167-for-537)/.348 OBP/.445 SLG with 31 doubles, 10 triples, 7 homers, 54 RBI, 30 walks and 78 runs scored. Against righties, he hit .330 (126-for-382)/.843 OPS with 19 doubles, 10 triples, 5 homers, 37 RBI and 24 walks. With runners on base, he hit .332 (70-for-211)/.832 OPS with 50 RBI, and with runners in scoring position, he hit .304 (34-for-112) with 41 RBI.
 
Vargas made his Major League debut for the D-backs last season. In 12 games, he hit .308 (4-for-13)/.308 OBP/.385 SLG with 1 double and 4 RBI.
 
Andriese, 29, made 1 start for Visalia, on August 31 @ Stockton, and tossed 3.2 scoreless frames with 1 hit, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He was optioned on August 28. In 36 combined games (4 starts) with the Tampa Bay Rays and D-backs in 2018, he is 3-5 with a 4.09 ERA (33 ER in 72.2 IP), 1 hold and 73 strikeouts. He was acquired from the Rays on July 25 for C Michael Perez and RHP Brian Shaffer.
 
Godley, 28, is returning home for the birth of his first child. In 29 games (28 starts) for the D-backs, he is 14-8 with a 4.51 ERA (80 ER in 159.2 IP), .251 opponent average and 170 strikeouts.
