His 3.10 ERA with Indianapolis ranked seventh among all International League pitchers.
"J.T. had a tremendous season, improving in virtually every category while logging more innings and pitching against the highest level of minor league competition," said Broadway. "He consistently put his team in a position to win every time he took the mound and his level of improvement from 2017 to 2018 was remarkable. As an organization, we are very proud of J.T. and he very deserving of this award."
Hayes spent the entire 2018 season with Altoona, where he hit .293 with 31 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs and 47 RBI in 117 games. For his efforts, Hayes was selected to the Eastern League's mid- and post-season All-Star teams.
The 20-year-old Hayes represented the Pittsburgh organization at this year's All-Star Futures Game, where he started for the U.S. Team at third base and went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Hayes, who was Pittsburgh's supplemental first round selection (32nd pick overall) in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, finished tied for first in the Eastern League with seven triples, and ranked fourth with 31 doubles, eighth with 45 extra base hits and ninth with a .293 average.
In addition, Hayes led all minor league third basemen with a .978 fielding percentage while also leading all Eastern League third basemen with 116 games, 278 total chances, 72 putouts and 29 double plays.
"Ke'Bryan continued his impressive defensive skills at third base in 2018, proving that his 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove award was no fluke," said Broadway. "Equally as impressive as his glove work was the offensive improvements he made this year, setting career highs in games, home runs, doubles, triples, hits and walks. Ke'Bryan truly deserves this award and we are very proud of the work that he has put in to get him to where he is at today."
Hayes is currently rated by MLBPipeline as the 52nd-best prospect in all of baseball, the fifth-best prospect among all third basemen and the second-best prospect in Pittsburgh's minor league system.
