The Boston Red Sox today made the following roster moves:
•   Second baseman Dustin Pedroia, infielder Marco Hernandez, and right-handed pitcher Austin Maddox were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Pedroia, 35, began the 2018 season on the disabled list recovering from left knee surgery performed on October 25, 2017. He was reinstated on May 25 and appeared in three games with the Red Sox before returning to the disabled list on June 2 (retroactive to May 30) and missing the remainder of the season. Selected by Boston in the second round of the 2004 June Draft, Pedroia has played his entire 13-year major league career with the Red Sox, batting .300 (1,803-for-6,011) with a .366 on-base percentage. A four-time All-Star, he was named the American League's Rookie of the Year in 2007 and Most Valuable Player in 2008. Pedroia has won four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards (2008, '11, '13-14), the most ever for a Red Sox infielder.
Hernandez, 26, missed the entire 2018 season due to injury. He began the season on the 60-day disabled list recovering from left shoulder surgery performed on May 26, 2017. On July 10, 2018, he underwent a successful left shoulder anterior stability revision procedure at The Vail Medical Center/Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO. The infielder was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on December 15, 2014, to complete the trade of Felix Doubront. Hernandez batted .284 (31-for-109) in 61 major league games between 2016 and 2017, also appearing in two games in the 2016 American League Division Series.
Maddox, 27, spent the entire 2018 season on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain. He appeared in eight games over two separate rehab assignments with Triple-A Pawtucket, Double-A Portland, and the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. On September 19, Maddox underwent successful right shoulder rotator cuff surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, CA. Selected by Boston in the third round of the 2012 June Draft, Maddox's lone major league experience came in 2017, when he posted a 0.52 ERA (1 ER/17.1 IP) with 14 strikeouts and two walks in 13 appearances with the Red Sox, also pitching in two games in the ALDS.
Smith, 29, made 18 appearances with the Red Sox in 2018 before being placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder subluxation on May 15. In 14.1 innings, the right-hander recorded 18 strikeouts and six walks, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.77 ERA (6 ER) and holding opponents scoreless in 14 of 18 outings. He underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder on June 13 and missed the remainder of the season. In 108 career games between the Mariners (2014-15) and Red Sox (2016-18), Smith has posted a 2.21 ERA (25 ER/102.0 IP).
Renda, 27, made his Red Sox debut in 2018 and appeared in one game, entering on August 5 against the Yankees as a pinch runner in the 10th inning and scoring on Andrew Benintendi's walk-off single. The infielder spent the rest of the 2018 season between Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland, combining to hit .318 (85-for-267) with five home runs. A second-round selection by the Washington Nationals in the 2012 June Draft, the California native made his major league debut with 32 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2016.
Haley, 27, made four relief appearances over two stints with Boston during the 2018 season, posting a 4.70 ERA (4 ER/7.2 IP). The right-handed pitcher spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Pawtucket, going 6-8 with a 3.80 ERA (48 ER/113.2 IP) with 107 strikeouts and 33 walks. Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2012 June Draft, Haley owns a 5.61 ERA (16 ER/25.2 IP) over 14 career major league relief appearances between the Minnesota Twins (2017) and Red Sox (2018).
