Royals add three players to Major League reserve list

The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have selected right-handed pitchers Arnaldo Hernandez and Josh Staumont from Omaha (AAA) and Scott Blewett from Northwest Arkansas (AA), adding all three to the 40-man roster ahead of today's reserve list deadline.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (November 20, 2018) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have selected right-handed pitchers Arnaldo Hernandez and Josh Staumont from Omaha (AAA) and Scott Blewett from Northwest Arkansas (AA), adding all three to the 40-man roster ahead of today's reserve list deadline. 
Blewett, 22, was Kansas City's second-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He spent last season at Northwest Arkansas, going 8-6 with a 4.79 ERA (79 ER in 148.1 IP), while he ranked sixth in the Texas League in strikeouts (100) and third in starts (25), trailing only teammates Foster Griffin and Emilio Ogando (26, each). He also made six starts in the Arizona Fall League, going a league-best 4-0 with a 2.94 ERA (7 ER in 25.1 IP).
Hernandez, 22, signed with the Royals as a non-drafted free agent in 2012 and pitched at Omaha, Northwest Arkansas and Wilmington (A+) last season. Combined across his three stops, the righty went 12-5 with a 3.96 ERA (61 ER in 138.2 IP). His 12 victories tied for the most among KC minor leaguers, while his strikeout total (105) ranked fifth. He also made nine appearances in the Arizona Fall League and posted a league-best 1.10 ERA (2 ER in 16.1 IP).
Staumont, 24, was Kansas City's second-round pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. In 41 appearances (5 starts) at Omaha, he went 2-5 with a save and a 3.51 ERA (29 ER in 74.1 IP). He posted 103 strikeouts, which were tops among Pacific Coast League hurlers that started six games or fewer.
