The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed infielder Dilson Herrera to a minor league contract and invited him to major league spring training.
Herrera, 24, has appeared in 102 major league games across three seasons for Cincinnati and the Mets. During the 2018 season, he batted .184 (16-87) in a career-high 53 major league games for the Reds, his first major league action since 2015, with five doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI. In 71 minor league contests last season, Herrera batted .297 (80-269) with 13 doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 35 RBI.
The Cartagena, Colombia native returns to the Mets organization after being dealt to the Reds on August 1, 2016 with Max Wotell in exchange for outfielder Jay Bruce. Herrera made his major league debut with the Mets on August 29, 2014 and played in 49 games for New York during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Herrera is a lifetime .203 hitter (48-236) in the majors with eight doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 28 RBI. In eight minor league seasons, Herrera has hit .295 (789-3,014) with 162 doubles, 26 triples, 76 home runs and 378 RBI in 702 games. 
Herrera was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2010. The Mets first acquired Herrera from Pittsburgh on August 27, 2013 along with RHP Vic Black in exchange for catcher John Buck and outfielder Marlon Byrd.
