Rangers finalize 2019 coaching staff

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has hired Oscar Marin as bullpen coach and Callix Crabbe (pronounced KAY-licks crab) as assistant hitting coach, finalizing the club's 2019 coaching staff. Additionally, the team has promoted Jacob Newburn to assistant athletic trainer and named Regan Wong physical therapist.

Marin returns to the Texas organization after two seasons as a Minor League pitching coordinator in the Seattle Mariners system. The California native spent his first six seasons in professional baseball with the Rangers, mentoring hurlers at several affiliates in the lower levels of the Texas farm system. He earned South Atlantic League Coach of the Year honors with Low-A Hickory in 2015. Marin joined the Rangers organization from the prep ranks in 2010, as he previously worked as a pitching coach and coordinator for Harvard-Westlake Preparatory School in North Hollywood, California from 2008-09. Marin finished his collegiate pitching career at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock from 2003-04.u5:p
Crabbe joins the professional coaching ranks after six years as a baseball instructor and coach at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Crabbe also founded Crabbe-ology Sports Development in 2015, where he provides instruction in hitting, defense, base running, bunting, game strategy, personal development, and physical conditioning. Crabbe moved into coaching after a 10-season playing career in the Milwaukee, San Diego, Seattle, and Toronto organizations. He was selected by the Padres in the 2007 Rule 5 Draft and was a member of the Friars' Opening Day roster in 2008, when he appeared in 21 games in his only career big league action. Crabbe was born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to Georgia at age 16.u5:p
Newburn fills an opening on the Major League training staff created upon the retirement of Kevin Harmon and the promotion of Matt Lucero to head athletic trainer. The Richardson, Texas native has spent 13 seasons as a trainer for many different Rangers Minor League affiliates, including the past three years with Double-A Frisco. Newburn received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa and his master's from UNLV.u5:p
Wong moves into full-time status with the Rangers staff after serving in a similar capacity over the past four seasons while continuing to work at TMI Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington. The Mansfield resident earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Ithaca (NY) College and also obtained a doctorate degree from the University of St. Augustine in Florida.u5:p
