Phillies, McCutchen agree to three-year contract

The Phillies and free-agent outfielder Andrew McCutchen have agreed to terms on a three-year contract, the club announced today. The deal includes a fourth-year club option for the 2022 season.

The Phillies and free-agent outfielder Andrew McCutchen have agreed to terms on a three-year contract, the club announced today. The deal includes a fourth-year club option for the 2022 season.
A five-time All-Star and the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player, McCutchen played in 155 games last season between the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees and combined to slash .255/.368/.424 with 83 runs, 30 doubles, 20 home runs, 95 walks and 14 stolen bases. After being traded to the Yankees on Aug. 31, McCutchen posted an .892 OPS in 25 games for New York.
A four-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award (2012-15), McCutchen owns a lifetime .287/.378/.481 slash line and has averaged 90 runs, 32 doubles, 22 home runs, 79 RBI, 78 walks and 19 steals per season during his 10-year career. Since his debut season in 2009, McCutchen has accrued 48.6 fWAR, which ranks fourth among all major league players in that span behind only Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels (64.7), Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds (52.4) and Robinson Cano of the New York Mets (48.9). His defensive play earned him a Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2012.
Further, since 2009, he ranks second among major league hitters in runs scored (897) & times on base (2,460), fourth in walks (780) and fifth in hits (1,608). McCutchen is also one of just three players with 20 or more home runs in each of the last eight seasons, joining Giancarlo Stanton of the New York Yankees and free agent Nelson Cruz.
Off the field, McCutchen was honored with the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to the player who demonstrates the values Clemente displayed in his commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others.
Originally selected in the first round (11th overall) of the June 2005 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, McCutchen has appeared in 1,501 games for the Pirates (2009-17), Giants (2018) and Yankees (2018). He ranks fourth in Pirates history in home runs, seventh in extra-base hits and walks, ninth in doubles and 10th in stolen bases.
