Padres select RHP Jeff Suppan from Triple-A Tucson and place LHP Cory Luebke on 15-day DL

Club transfers INF/OF Kyle Blanks to the 60-day DL

The San Diego Padres today announced they have selected right-handed pitcher Jeff Suppan from Triple-A Tucson and placed left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28, with a strained left elbow.  In addition, the club has transferred infielder/outfielder Kyle Blanks to the 60-day disabled list.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.

Suppan, 37, has made two starts for Triple-A Tucson so far this season, being signed to a minor league contract in February earlier this year. He is scheduled to start today's 3:35 p.m. PT game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park, which will be his first Major League action since the 2010 season.  Over parts of 16 Big League campaigns with six different clubs, he has gone 138-143 with a 4.69 ERA (1310 ER/2512.0 IP) in 442 games, 411 starts.

Luebke, 27, has gone 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA (9 ER/31.0 IP) over five starts for the Padres this season. The Padres have gone 4-1 in his five starts thus far.  Over parts of three Major League seasons with the Padres, he has gone 10-12 with a 3.25 ERA (68 ER/188.1 IP) over 55 games, 25 starts.

Blanks, 25, underwent season-ending surgery on his left shoulder on April 24.  He played in four games total for the Padres this season.
