SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced the coaching staffs for their minor league affiliates and the club's player development coordinators for the 2019 season.
 
In El Paso, the Chihuahuas will be managed by Edwin Rodriguez, who returns for his third season in the Padres organization after managing Single-A Lake Elsinore the previous two seasons. Returning to the Triple-A coaching staff will be pitching coach Bronswell Patrick for his 12th season in the organization. He will be joined by hitting coach Morgan Burkhart, who returns for his seventh season in the organization and fourth with the Chihuahuas. Lance Burkhart also returns in 2019 as fielding coach for his second season with El Paso and fifth in the organization, previously serving as hitting coach for San Antonio in 2017. The Chihuahuas training staff will be led by athletic trainers Daniel Leja and Dan Turner and strength coach A.J. Russell.
 
The Padres Double-A affiliate returns to Amarillo in 2019 after 12 seasons in San Antonio and will be managed by Phillip Wellman, who returns for his fourth season in the Padres organization managing the Padres Double-A squad. The 2019 season will be Wellman's 31st as a coach and 20th as a minor league manager. Returning to lead the Sod Poodles pitching corps will be pitching coach Jimmy Jones, entering his 11th season with the Padres. Hitting coach Raul Padron returns for his fourth season with the organization and second with the Double-A affiliate after serving as hitting coach for Lake Elsinore in 2017. Freddy Flores joins the Amarillo staff for his first season as fielding coach and third with the Padres, previously serving in the same capacity for Single-A Lake Elsinore. The Sod Poodles training staff will be led by athletic trainers Nick Coberly and Drew Garner and strength coach Drew Heithoff.
             
In Lake Elsinore, the Storm will be managed by Tony Tarasco, who makes his managerial debut in his fourth season with the Padres organization, while also maintaining his role of serving as high performance and outfield/baserunning coordinator. Prior to joining the Padres, Tarasco spent the previous 10 seasons with the Washington Nationals, serving most recently as the Major League club's first base coach. Pitching coach Pete Zamora returns for his second season with the Single-A Storm and fourth in the Padres organization after serving in 2017 as pitching coach for the club's Rookie-Level affiliate in Peoria, Ariz. Also returning will be hitting coach Doug Banks for his second season with the Storm and third with the Padres after serving in the same capacity for Fort Wayne in 2017. Felipe Blanco joins the Storm's staff as fielding coach and his second with the Padres organization, serving in the same capacity for the Short-Season Tri-City Dust Devils in 2018. Lake Elsinore's training staff will be led by Athletic Trainer Ricky Huerta and strength coach Jay Young.
 
Fort Wayne will be managed by Anthony Contreras, who returns for his fifth full season of managing in the Padres organization and fourth as the manager for the Single-A TinCaps after managing in Tri-City in 2015. Pitching coach Burt Hooton returns for his seventh season with Fort Wayne and his 44th overall in professional baseball. Hitting coach Jonathan Mathews returns for his second season with Fort Wayne and third in the organization after serving in 2017 as a Major League coach for the Padres. Jhonny Carvajal returns for his fourth season in the Padres organization and third as fielding coach for Fort Wayne after serving as a coach with the Dominican Summer League Padres in 2016. The TinCaps training staff will be led by athletic trainer Allyse Kramer and strength coach Sam Hoffman.
 
In Tri-City, Mike McCoy will serve as manager for the second consecutive season for the Short-A Dust Devils in his fourth season with the Padres organization. Pitching coach Leo Rosales returns to the organization for his second season after serving in the same role for the AZL Padres in 2018. Hitting coach Pat O'Sullivan returns to Tri-City for his second season with the team and the Padres organization. Fielding coach Oscar Salazar returns to the Dust Devils coaching staff after serving in the same role in 2017-18. The Dust Devils training staff will be led by athletic trainer David Bryan and strength coach Corey Measner.
 
Aaron Levin and Vinny Lopez return to manage the club's two Rookie-Level affiliate squads in Peoria for the second consecutive season. It will be Levin's third season with the Padres after spending 2016 managing the Padres Dominican Summer League club. Lopez served as hitting coach for Fort Wayne in 2016 and the AZL Padres in 2017. John Halama and Giancarlo Alvarado will serve as pitching coaches for the AZL Padres, returning to the organization for their second and third seasons, respectively. Jed Morris returns to the AZL Padres for his first full season as hitting coach after serving as the head baseball coach for Eastern University from 2012-18. Raul Gonzalez also returns for his third season with the organization as hitting coach for the AZL Padres. Fielding coaches Jonathan Meyer and Sung Heon Hong also return for their second seasons with the Padres. The AZL Padres training staff will be led by athletic trainers Jordan Light and Maritza Castro, strength coaches Justin Seyler and Ben Loftis and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator Eric Wood. Ben Fritz will also return for his fifth season in the Padres organization and second as coordinator, AZ/rehab.
 
Miguel Del Castillo returns for his second season with the organization as manager for the Padres Dominican Summer League affiliate. Joining him will be pitching coaches Jackson Quezada and Nelson Cruz, returning for their eighth and ninth seasons, respectively. Also returning to the DSL staff will be hitting coach Yunir Garcia and coaches Edinson Rincon, Jhonaldo Pozo and Wilfri De La Cruz. The DSL Padres training staff will be led by athletic trainer Oscar Orengo, assistant athletic trainer Jairo Garcia, strength and conditioning coach Dan Donohue and assistant strength and conditioning coach Juan Salgado.
 
Returning to San Diego's staff of minor league roving instructors and player development coordinators for 2019 will be field coordinator Chris Kemp, coordinator of instruction Ryley Westman, director of pitching development Steve Lyons, pitching coordinator Eric Junge, roving pitching instructor Gorman Heimueller, infield coordinator Kevin Hooper, hitting instructor Oscar Bernard, director of professional development Jason Amoroso, player development instructor Dave Bingham, international player development/infield instructor Vicente Cafaro, minor league ATC coordinator Ben Fraser, medical administration coordinator JoJo Tarantino, physical therapists Tanner Fields and John Biggar and strength and conditioning coordinator Dan Byrne.
