Indians re-sign LHP Oliver Pérez

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has re-signed free-agent LHP OLIVER PÉREZ (#39) to a Major League contract for the 2019 season with a vesting option for 2020.

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has re-signed free-agent LHP OLIVER PÉREZ (#39) to a Major League contract for the 2019 season with a vesting option for 2020.  
The June 2018 acquisition was a key member of the Indians bullpen, leading the team with 15 holds while recording scoreless appearances in 46 of his 51 outings and posting the highest bWAR of any reliever on the staff (1.3). During his four-month tenure with the club he posted an ERA of 1.39 (32.1IP, 17H, 5ER, 7BB, 43SO, .417 OPS), limited Major League hitters to a .155 average against with a walk-to-strikeout ratio of 6.14 and recorded an inherited runners scored pct. of 9.3% (4-of-43, lowest in the A.L.). His 1.39 ERA was fourth-lowest among MLB relievers who logged at least 30.0 innings (1.74 FIP was second-lowest in MLB).
The 37-year-old native of Culiacan, Mexico was originally signed by Cleveland as a free agent on June 2 after being granted his release from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.   The 16-year Major League veteran owns the third-most appearances (603) and third-most strikeouts (1479) of any Mexican-born pitcher in MLB history.
