Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced today that the club will retire the uniform number 29 of third baseman Adrian Beltre prior to the game with the Oakland A's on Saturday, June 8.
 
The Rangers and A's play at 8:05 p.m. that night at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Beltre on-field ceremony is expected to begin at approximately 7:35 p.m. In addition, the first 15,000 fans entering the park that night will receive a Dr Pepper/Brookshire's "The 3000th Hit" Adrian Beltre Bobblehead.
 
The club announced that it intended to retire Beltre's number in 2019 at the Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Winter Warmup on January 25.
 
Beltre will become the fourth Ranger to have his uniform number retired by the club, joining Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan's #34 in 1996, former manager Johnny Oates' #26 in 2005, and Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez in 2017. In addition, Major League Baseball retired the number 42 worn by Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, the first African-American player in the major leagues, in 1997,
 
The ceremony to retire Beltre's number will take place as part of the Rangers' season-long celebration of the team's final year playing at Globe Life Park in Arlington. 
 
Beltre announced his retirement as an active player on November 20, 2018 after a brilliant 21-year Major League career with the Dodgers (1998-2004), Mariners (2005-2009), Red Sox (2010), and Rangers (2011-18). He ranks among the all-time leaders in doubles (11th, 636), games (14th, 2933), total bases (14th, 5309), extra base hits (14th, 1151), hits (15th, 3166), RBI (21st, 1707), and home runs (30th, 477) and has the most career hits of any non-U.S. native in history. The only other players ever with at least 3166 hits and 477 home runs are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Eddie Murray.
 
In his eight seasons with the Rangers, Beltre batted .304 with 199 homers and 699 RBI in 1098 games. He was a four-time selection as the Rangers' Player of the Year while batting at least .300 five times. His .332 average as a Ranger at Globe Life Park is the highest in the 25-year history of the park, and he ranks second with 120 homers and 426 RBI.
 
MINORS SIGNINGS: The Rangers formally announced the signings of right-handed pitchers Ricardo Rodríguez and David Carpenter, along with left-handed pitcher Chris Nunn to minor league contracts. All three pitchers will be in minor league camp this spring.
 
Rodríguez had right shoulder surgery in December, this after last pitching on August 5 due to a right shoulder impingement. He is not expected to be ready for the start of the season. He was not tendered a contract prior to the deadline on November 30, making him a free agent.
 
The 33-year-old Carpenter most recently pitched in the Arizona farm system in 2017 and was released by the organization on March 27, 2018. He has gone 11-11 with a 3.66 ERA in 218 career relief appearances with Houston (2011-12), Toronto (2012), Atlanta (2013-14), New York Yankees (2015), and Washington (2015).
 
Nunn, 28, split last season between the Houston organization and St. Paul of the independent American Association. The Tennessee native was selected in the 24th round of the 2012 June draft out of Nashville's Lipscomb University, and he has averaged 10.1 strikeouts per 9 innings across six minor league seasons.
