Twins Claim Outfielder Erik Komatsu Off Waivers from St. Louis, Designate Clete Thomas for Assignment

Burroughs Clears Waivers, Accepts Outright To Rochester

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed outfielder Erik Komatsu off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.  In 15 games with the Cardinals this season, Komatsu batted .211 (4-for-19) with two walks and three runs scored.

The 24-year old was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.  He was traded to Washington in exchange for Jerry Hairston on July 30, 2011, prior to being selected by the Cardinals in the 2011 Rule 5 Draft.

To make room for Komatsu on the 25-man roster, the Twins have designated outfielder Clete Thomas for assignment.  Thomas, who was claimed off waivers from Detroit on April 14, appeared in 12 games with the Twins, batting .143 (4-for-28) with one double, one home run, four rbi and 14 strikeouts.

In addition, infielder Sean Burroughs cleared waivers and has accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester.
