Cubs Acquire Catcher Koyie Hill from Cincinnati

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today acquired catcher Koyie Hill from the Cincinnati Reds for a cash consideration.

Hill will wear uniform number 55 and be available for the Cubs tonight against the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field.  Blake Parker will switch to uniform number 50.

With the retirement of Kerry Wood, Chicago’s 40-man roster still stands at 40 players.

Hill, 33, returns to the Cubs after spending all or part of the past five years in the organization (2007-11).  He hit .208 (149-for-716) with seven home runs and 63 RBI in 252 games with the Cubs during his first stint.  The Cubs went 106-88, good for a .546 winning percentage, in Hill’s 194 starts behind the plate during his five seasons with the club.

The switch-hitter batted .195 (8-for-41) with three doubles, one home run and five RBI in 14 games with Cincinnati’s Double-A Pensacola affiliate this season.
