Padres place OF Mark Kotsay on 15-day DL and recall OF Blake Tekotte from Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The San Diego Padres today announced they have placed outfielder Mark Kotsay on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 13, with a lower back strain and have recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte from Triple-A Tucson.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Tekotte, 24, makes his second stint with the Padres this season. The outfielder was first recalled from Tucson on April 28 and played in five games for San Diego before being optioned back to Tucson on May 8.  In 28 games for Tucson this year, he has hit .283 (32-for-113) with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and three stolen bases.  The left-handed hitter made his Big League debut for the Padres last season and has hit .162 (6-for-37) with a double, triple, RBI, run scored and three stolen bases in 24 Big League games played.

Kotsay, 36, has hit .294 (10-for-34) with two doubles, one home run, six RBI and four runs scored in 18 games played and eight games started for San Diego this season. In the pinch this year, he has gone 3-for-10 with a double, a home run and four RBI.  The left-handed-hitter began the season on the disabled list with a strained right calf muscle and was reinstated on April 16.
