Padres select RHP Matt Palmer from Triple-A Tucson and option RHP Nick Vincent to Tucson

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres today announced they have selected right-handed pitcher Matt Palmer from Triple-A Tucson and optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Vincent to Tucson. Additionally, the club has transferred left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke to the 60-day disabled list. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Palmer, 33, has made seven starts for Tucson this year, going 4-2 with a 4.64 ERA (17 ER/33.0 IP). Signed by the Padres as a minor league free agent on December 1, 2011, Palmer has gone 13-7 with a 4.52 ERA (92 ER/182.1 IP) in 60 Major League games (20 starts) over parts of four seasons with the San Francisco Giants (2008) and Los Angeles Angels (2009-11).

Vincent, 25, has appeared in three games so far with Triple-A Tucson. A native of Poway, Calif. and graduate of Ramona High School (CA), he was signed by the Padres as an 18^th-round selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and was selected to the club’s 40-man roster this past offseason.  The right-hander also attended Palomar Junior College and Long Beach State University before joining the Padres organization.  Last season for Double-A San Antonio, he went 8-2 with a 2.27 ERA (20 ER/79.1 IP) over 66 relief outings.

Luebke, 27, has gone 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA (9 ER/31.0 IP) over five starts for the Padres this season. The Padres have gone 4-1 in his five starts thus far.  Over parts of three Major League seasons with the Padres, he has gone 10-12 with a 3.25 ERA (68 ER/188.1 IP) over 55 games, 25 starts. Luebke was originally placed on the 15-day DL on May 2 (retro to April 28) with a strained left elbow.
