Twins Designate Jason Marquis

Will Select Contract of Cole DeVries

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have designated right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis for release or assignment.  In seven starts for the Twins this season, Marquis was 2-4, 8.47 ERA (34.0 ip, 32 er), allowing 52 hits with 14 walks and 12 strikeouts.

To replace Marquis on the 25-man roster, the Twins will select the contract of right-handed pitcher Cole DeVries from Triple-A Rochester in time for tonight’s game at Chicago.  In eight starts for the Red Wings this season, DeVries was 1-4, 4.24 ERA (46.2 ip, 22 er), allowing 47 hits with seven walks and 37 strikeouts.

DeVries, a 2003 graduate of Eden Prairie High School, pitched collegiately at the University of Minnesota.  He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on August 22, 2006.  DeVries will wear uniform number 38.
