Mariners activate Olivo from 15-day disabled list; option Wells to Tacoma
Miguel Olivo recalled from rehab assignment at AAA Tacoma and activated from 1-day DL for tonight’s game vs. the Angels.
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today that catcher Miguel Olivo, who has been on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin since May 1, has been recalled from his rehabilitation assignment at AAA Tacoma, and activated from the 15-day disabled list. Outfielder Casper Wells has been optioned to AAA Tacoma to make room on the active, 25-man, Major League roster.
Olivo appeared in 3 games on rehabilitation assignment with the Tacoma Rainiers. In the 3 games, he hit .231 (3x13) with a solo home run. In yesterday’s game at Iowa, Olivo was 2-for-5 with a home run and 2 runs scored.
Olivo, 33, was injured in the 9th inning of the April 30 game, a 3-2 loss at Tampa Bay. He was injured fielding a ball between the mound and home plate.
When he was injured, Olivo had an eight-game hitting streak during which he batted .333 (11-for-33) with 3 home runs (including one on April 30) and 4 RBI.
For the season, Olivo is hitting .210 (17-for-81) with 2 doubles, 4 homers and 7 RBI. He had started 19 of the teams first 24 games behind the plate.
Wells, 27, is hitting .213 (10x47) this season with 1 home run and 6 RBI in 25 games played. He’s appeared in 25 games, but has made just 12 starts, all in left field.
