Indians Announce Series of Roster Moves

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has made the following roster moves:

  • Activated RHP Josh Tomlin from the 15-day Disabled List (right wrist tendonitis)
  • Recalled INF Lonnie Chisenhall from AAA Columbus
  • Placed INF Jack Hannahan on the 15-day Disabled List with a strained left calf, retroactive to May 27
  • Designated RHP Jairo Asencio for assignment

Tomlin is 1-2 with a 4.67 ERA in 6 games/5 starts thus far in 2012 (34.2IP, 36H, 18ER, 7BB, 27K) and was placed on the 15-day Disabled List on May 12 (retroactive to May 8) with tendonitis in his right wrist.  He will make his 6th start of the season today vs. the Kansas City Royals in Progressive Field.

Chisenhall has spent the entire 2012 season to date at Triple-A Columbus where he has hit .324 (36-111) with 12 doubles, 4 home runs and 17 RBI in 28 games (.353OB/.541SLG/ .893OPS).  He was on the Minor League DL from April 29 thru May 18 with a strained left calf and would currently rank in the top 10 in OPS, slugging pct and batting average with the requisite number of at bats. Lonnie is hitting .318 (7-22, 3 2B, 5RBI) in 6 games since his return from the DL and is hitting .327 (16-49) with runners on base this season.  He wears #8 and will be making his 2012 season debut with the Indians today.

Hannahan begins his first career stint on the Major League Disabled List and thus far in 2012 he has batted .276 (29-105) with 6 doubles, 3 homers and 18 RBI in 31 games.  He is coming off an 11-game absence from May 14-25 due to lower back inflammation.

Asencio has posted a record of 1-1 with a 5.96 ERA in 18 relief outings this year with Cleveland (25.2IP, 27H, 17ER)
