Dodgers Reinstate Kemp, Option Sands

All-Star center fielder returns after missing 14 games with a left hamstring strain

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated outfielder Matt Kemp from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder/first baseman Jerry Sands to Triple-A Albuquerque. Sands, 24, appeared in eight games with the Dodgers, batting .200 (4-for-20) with two doubles and an RBI.

Kemp, who was placed on the disabled list on May 14, batted .714 (5-for-7) with two home runs and five RBI in two rehab games with Triple-A Albuquerque this weekend. The National League’s April Player of the Month is batting .359 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI in 34 games this season and ranked among the league’s leaders in most offensive categories at the time of his injury. The 27-year-old was also named the league’s Player of the Week for the periods of April 5-8 and April 9-16, becoming the first National League Player to win the honor in consecutive weeks to begin the season.
