Atlanta Braves Welcome Legends of the Game for Third Annual Alumni Weekend

Festivities to include: John Smoltz Induction into the Braves Hall of Fame and Number Retirement Ceremony, Alumni Softball Game featuring the 1992 Braves and Sid Bream Slides Bobblehead Gate Giveaway

The Atlanta Braves will kick off the third annual Alumni Weekend June 8-10, when the Braves take on the Toronto Blue Jays at Turner Field. More than 40 former Braves legends are scheduled to return to relive the memories and meet the fans that have cheered them on throughout the years.

To kick off the fun-filled weekend, pitching legend John Smoltz’s uniform number will be retired in an on-field ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m., prior to the matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. In addition, alumni including Sid Bream, Rick Camp, Bobby Cox, Marvin Freeman, Andy Ashby, Mike Bell, Mike Bielecki, Marty Perez, Craig Skok, Tony Brizzolara, Brad Clontz, Otis Nixon, Jeff Treadway, Greg McMichael, Pete VanWieren, Jay Howell, Ryan Klesko, Kevin Gryboski, Bob Horner, Jose Alvarez, Dwight Smith, Todd Pratt, Chris Seelbach, John Sullivan, Jim Nash, Denny Neagle, Jerome Walton, Phil Niekro, Francisco Cabrera, Leo Mazzone, Ron Gant and Mark Wohlers will be on-deck to sign autographs from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at different locations around the ballpark.

On Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to watch members of the 1992 Braves square off against other Braves legends including Sid Bream, Otis Nixon, Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Francisco Cabrera, Bobby Cox and Rick Camp in the second annual Braves Alumni Softball game. Gates will open at 1:00 p.m. in anticipation of the 2:30 p.m. Alumni Softball game. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sid Bream’s slide into home plate during the 1992 National League Championship Series Game 7, subsequently sending the Braves to the World Series for the second consecutive year, a special pregame ceremony will take place honoring Bream, Francisco Cabrera and home plate umpire Randy Marsh. The presentation will be hosted by long-time Braves broadcaster and Braves Hall of Fame member, Pete Van Wieren beginning at 3:40 p.m. The first 20,000 visitors will be able to take home a piece of history as the Braves debut the Sid Bream Slides Bobblehead Gate Giveaway.

To wrap up the series, Braves alumni Sid Bream, Rick Camp, Marvin Freeman, Andy Ashby, Mike Bell, Mike Bielecki, Marty Perez, Craig Skok, Tony Brizzolara, Brad Clontz, Pete Smith, Otis Nixon, Jeff Treadway, Greg McMichael, Jay Howell, Mike Remlinger, CJ Nitkowski, Tom Paciorek, Javy Lopez, Dale Murphy, Todd Pratt, Chris Seelbach, John Sullivan, Jim Nash, Denny Neagle, Jerome Walton and Francisco Cabrera will greet fans and take pictures at stations around the ballpark for Alumni Sundays.
