Angels conclude 2012 first year player draft

The Angels selected 25 players during rounds 16-40 of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, as announced by Angels’ Director of Scouting Ric Wilson. The Angels lost their first and second round picks as compensation for signing free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, and yesterday selected 13 players on the Draft’s second day. In total, the Angels selected 38 players.

Overall, the Angels selected 33 college players and five high school players; 17 pitchers (13 RHP, 4 LHP), nine infielders, seven catchers and five outfielders.  Ten selections either attended school in or are from the state of Florida, while six players have ties to Texas. 

Today’s noteworthy picks include: RHP Kenny Hatcher, nephew of former Angels  hitting coach Mickey Hatcher, taken in the 36th  round out of Dallas Baptist University and C Justin Morhardt out of The Gilbert School in Winsted, CT. He is the son of Angels National Crosschecker, Greg Morhardt.
