Cardinals tab rookie pitcher Joe Kelly for Sunday start against Indians

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that rookie right-hander Joe Kelly will make the start on Sunday (June 10) in the Cardinals series finale against Cleveland.  The official transaction and corresponding roster move will be made prior to Sunday’s game.

Kelly, who turns 24 tomorrow, was the Cardinals 3rd round draft selection (98th player overall) in 2009 and he will be making his Major League debut.

The 6-1, 185-pound Southern California native has posted a 2-5 mark with 2.86 ERA in 12 starts for Memphis (AAA), working 7.0 or more innings in each of his last three outings.  His 2.86 ERA is currently ranked 2nd in the Pacific Coast League.
